Client: RCMP
Location: Depot, Regina, SK
Date: 2008-2009
Project Description:
In May 2007, Lees + Associates was awarded a contract for Phase I of a project to renovate two significant heritage areas at “Depot,” the national training academy for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, in Regina, Saskatchewan. The scope of work included the cenotaph site and the entry to an historic but still active cemetery. Both sites are ceremonial spaces, focussed on memorials to commemorate members who lost their lives in the line of duty. The overall design intent was to better integrate these historic sites into their physical and ceremonial contexts, as well as to provide dignified and historically appropriate elements conveying the character and values of the RCMP.
LEES+Associates began work on Phase II of the project in 2008, which included design development of the preferred concept plans, preparation of construction drawings, site services and contract administration for both sites. Construction began in the summer of 2009. On September 13, 2009, the RCMP held their first event, the annual National Memorial Service, at the renovated sites.
