Prince George Mausoleum

Client: Prince George Municipal Cemetery

Location: Prince George, BC

Date: 2005-2006

Project Description:

The opening of a 100 crypt mausoleum building in Prince George Municipal Cemetery on November 16, 2006, marked the successful culmination of a three year research, planning and construction project involving LEES + Associates and the City of Prince George. Over that time, LEES + Associates conducted a Mausoleum Feasibility Study, including a resident survey and business plan, prepared the Mausoleum Site Plan, developed Design Guidelines for the mausoleum building and landscape, and provided contract administration services during the construction phase.

The mausoleum building (designed and constructed by Carrier Mausoleums) is a stylistic departure from traditional mausoleum structures, reflects the architectural character and traditional building materials of central BC. A gabled roofline, natural wood siding with coordinated masonry and generous, clear glass window panels contribute to its non-denominational, elegant and sophisticated appearance. Fir panelled ceilings create a warm and welcoming interior ambience.

The mausoleum includes 500 glass-front niches as well as single and companion crypts. It has been well received by the community.  The mausoleum building will be the anchor of the new expansion area and other on-going improvements at the cemetery.
