Erik Lees

 

 

 

 

Erik Lees, BLA, BCSLA, Principal
Erik has been involved in landscape planning, design and construction since 1972. His background in landscape architecture, horticulture and management combined with a thorough understanding of government systems has resulted in a blend of planning and corporate skills. He has designed and managed many large and small scale parks, cemetery and municipal infrastructure projects.

Erik is a Member of the Park Branch Advisory Council of the BC Recreation and Parks Association and is a Board Member of the University of Oregon's Park Administrators Academy. He is also a member of the Western Canada Cemetery Association, Cremation Association of North America and the Cemetery and Crematorium Association of BC. He is a contributing writer to the Institute of Burial and Cremation Administration and Network magazines and speaks regularly to industry, academic and business groups on subjects relating to sustainability, parks and cemetery trends, planning and design.

In the Fall of 2005, Erik was awarded the BC Association of Community Living Partnership Award for his work on the Woodlands Memorial Garden.


Kathi Lees

Kathi Lees, BA, MA, Principal
Kathi is an advocate of cultural landscapes. Her understanding and interest in how cemeteries, public open spaces and parks reflect current and past community values has been utilized in our firm's cemetery design work. Kathi's training as a museum educator and designer of interpretive exhibits and programs expands our team's capability into this aspect of cemetery and park design.


Catriona Hearn Catriona Hearn, BA, BLA, Associate
Catriona has been practicing landscape architecture since 1986, working as a consultant in BC, Ontario and the United States.  Her background in English literature, interest in detailed design and commitment to the creation of meaningful landscapes enriches all of her work. Catriona is a Master Gardener with a passion for horticulture, ecology and sustainable design. Her belief in the significance of the public realm enhances our firm's ability to deliver quality projects to our clients.


Leila Zeppelin Leila Zeppelin, BA, MLA, Associate
Leila studied Landscape Architecture in both Sweden and Vancouver, earning her Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia. Leila has played a leading role in projects ranging from open space planning to more detailed design. Leila’s passion is designing sacred spaces in the public realm.


Heidi Redman Heidi Redman, MLA, BCSLA, Associate
Heidi holds degrees in French and Landscape Architecture from Wellesley College and UBC, respectively. She brings to the team a commitment to improving community health and livability through design at a variety of scales. Heidi has applied her writing and design skills to a range of projects including park and trail planning, open space design, and active transportation networks.        

Steve Rupert Steve Rupert, BLA, OALA, Associate
Steve is a graduate of the BLA program at the University of Toronto. He has 28 years experience in the cemetery profession, including cemetery master planning, mausolea, funeral home and reception centre design, as well as project management. His designs reflect his understanding of the need to amalgamate the requirements of all disiplines within the cemetery profession, harmoniously blending these requirements within the landscape environment, enabling them to provide their customers with the highest standards in service.


Lydia Mynott Lydia Mynott, MA, Dip LD, BCSLA, Associate
Lydia holds a Masters degree in landscape architecture from the University of Sheffield, UK. She brings nearly 10 years of design experience to the company working on projects ranging from master planning major new sustainable communities to the implementation of detailed design proposals. Lydia is experienced in delivering projects on site and has a keen interest in urban regeneration, urban design and biodiversity.


Nalon Smith Nalon Smith, BSc, MLA, Associate
Nalon has four years of public service experience as a Parks and Recreation Planner working on a range of projects from community parks and urban trails in Arizona to natural resource GIS survey and mapping in Alaska. He studied Parks and Recreation Management in Arizona and New Zealand, and recently completed a Masters of Landscape Architecture at UBC. Professional interests include stream restoration, urban biodiversity, and alternative transportation networks.

Katy Amon Katy Amon, BA, MLA, Associate
Katy holds a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of British Columbia, and a BA in Environmental Geography from Simon Fraser University.  Her interests include the development and application of sustainable practices and principles from a regional to site scale, active transportation, urban biodiversity, environmental restoration and the integration of greener infrastructure.

Chris McBride Chris McBride, BLA, BSc, Associate
Chris holds a Bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture (BLA) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from North Dakota State University. Originally from Saskatchewan, Chris brings 8 years of stateside design experience to the company. Chris' strengths are in urban design, master planning, and recreation facility design projects. 


David Gibbon

 

Dave Gibbon, BCSLA, Associate
Dave has been intensely committed to park planning and public recreation for more than 30 years. His background in landscape architecture and parks management, combined with a thorough understanding of local government systems, provides an excellent mix of planning and park design skills. In the early 1970s he worked in the private sector, both as a partner in a multi-disciplinary design office, and later in his own company. In 1978, Dave joined Delta Leisure Services Department as parks manager where he was responsible for planning and capital development.  In 2001, Dave returned to private practice and his company took on a six year contract with the Capital Regional District to provide parks and recreation management services on Salt Spring Island. Dave currently works with Lees + Associates on projects requiring his specialized background in public recreation and athletic field design.

Susan McAllister Susan McAllister, BLA, OALA, Associate
Susan is a registered landscape architect, and oversees the LEES+Associates Ontario office. She is a highly competent, skilled professional with strong design and project management skills. Having worked in both public and private sector environments in Ontario and the eastern USA, Susan understands the need for communication, collaboration, clarity and defensibility in working through projects with a public process.

Megan Turnock Megan Turnock, MSc, MLA, Associate
Megan holds a Masters of Landscape Architecture, a Masters of Environmental Science (Conservation Biology), and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. She has 10 years of experience as an environmental consultant for public and private clients, working on a range of projects including environmental planning, habitat restoration design, and environmental impact assessments. Megan strives to apply her experience to projects such that they improve quality of life, build community, and improve sustainability.

Elsa Brobbey Elsa Brobbey, BA, Office Manager
Elsa comes with a broad background in administrative support and customer service. With a vast experience working with Fortune 500 companies in the US and Canada, she is responsible for managing the office and the general administrative functions of the company.
