Biodiversity Conservation Strategy

Client: Greater Vancouver Regional District

Location: Lower Mainland, BC

Date: 2006-2007

Project Description:

The Biodiversity Conservation Strategy is an ongoing initiative that began in 2001 under the leadership of the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) with an objective to define biodiversity and its importance, and to summarize recent background analyses with the goal of developing a Biodiversity Action Plan for the region. This Action Plan, prepared by a consultant team led by LEES + Associates identifies the actions needed to address short and long term ecological crises facing the region.

The purpose of the Biodiversity Action Plan is to provide all those that have an interest or an affect on biodiversity—from the public to land use planners, the development community and decision makers—with the tools they need to ensure that biodiversity across the region is improved over time. A fundamental consideration is that the recommendations of the Action Plan be affordable, effective and measurable; as well as understandable across a range of scales, sectors and communities. The Biodiversity Action Plan was completed in June 2007.
