Open Space Planning
Principals and associates in our firm have been involved in open space planning in British Columbia for over 30 years. Our understanding of “green” infrastructure needs, cemetery, parks and outdoor recreation trends continues to expand the scope of work we undertake. Our firm have been engaged in virtually every aspect of parks, public and private open spaces, cemetery and landscape design, which gives us a unique planning perspective, and a solid base for integrating sustainable concepts into our work.
Cemetery Planning & Design
Our firm has been involved in virtually every aspect of municipal cemeteries since 1978. We are conversant with current operations, capacity, perpetual care, green burial and cremation trends, funding options and environmental requirements. We have led primary demographic and cultural studies that have become the basis for site specific cemetery planning and design.
Recreation Planning and Management
LEES + Associates has completed innovative outdoor recreation planning and research in British Columbia. Our trails, parks and facilities master plans have formed long term visions for local governments. Our qualitative research has utilized defensible methodologies and formed the basis for ongoing design and management decisions.
Policy Development
Our firm has drafted succinct, effective landscape, urban forest, conservation and management policies for clients in both the public and private sector. Our extensive operations and administration experience has been effectively utilized in the development of planning and implementation guides for urban, rural and suburban landscape applications including urban forest management plans, integrated pest management policies, tree cutting policies and bylaws and significant natural features guides. Our research, facilitation and document design skills have led to the creation of case studies and forums on Health and the Built Environment.
