Client: Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation
Location: Stanley Park, Vancouver, BC
Date: 2006-2007
Project Description:
In July, 2007 Lees + Associates completed a public memorial to the 331 people who lost their lives in the 1985 Air India tragedy. Working under contract with the Vancouver Park Board, LEES + Associates collaborated closely with the Air India Review Secretariat and victims’ families to develop a concept appropriate to the memory of those who perished as well as to the site at the south end of Ceperley Meadows, in Stanley Park.
The project, which was funded by the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia, included major improvements to the adjacent playground and the surrounding landscape. In keeping with the wishes of the families, the playground restoration focused on the positive qualities of play and cooperation amongst children.
